About Us
Simply put, Época Mezcal is a mezcal distributor based out of the vibrant city of Bristol.
But we intend to make Época Mezcal much more than that. Driven by a purpose to be a force for good whilst sharing something we love, mezcal distribution is the starting point for much more.
Foundations
Over a life-long friendship, Chris, Fred and Simon envisioned giving back to the Bristol community by setting up a venue providing opportunities for people who have experienced hardship. In 2020 meanwhile, Fred moved to Mexico and fell in love with the country and its mezcal. He invited us all to try a little mezcal and we were sold. In this, we not only saw the potential to deliver our Bristol venue, but also to place mezcal at the heart of that vision.
We agreed to do it only if we could guarantee a project in partnership with the people in Mexico who share our values of positive contributions to the local community, with sustainability at the core of everything. These partnerships are also a way of maintaining the culture, history, and authenticity of mezcal.
First steps
So, with a taste for mezcal and a craving to start a business with purpose, Época Mezcal was born. It was at this stage that we got serious and convinced our friends Jerónimo and Natalie to join the team in Mexico, with Michaela heading up marketing.
We have spent the last three years in Mexico searching and developing partnerships with incredible mezcal producers. We made it our mission to seek out socially and environmentally responsible companies to partner with and we have found the gold standard. We work with artisanal, small batch producers from the social collective Mujeres del Mezcal y Maguey (Women of Mezcal and Agave) that operate in less developed parts of Mexico.
Our Philosophy
Our commitment to sustainability and social consciousness doesn’t stop in Mexico. Anyone who knows Bristol, knows it has its fair share of social inequality – our aim being to invest a portion of our profits back into the city and make a difference in the place we call home. Época Mezcal is a certified Social Enterprise with Social Enterprise UK.
When Época Mezcal succeeds in creating a cantina-style venue it will be the completion of our long term vision. We see mezcal as a vessel for change. A way to tackle underdevelopment and insecurity in parts of Mexico alongside tackling inequality in the United Kingdom. All while trying to minimise the impact we have on the environment, eventually with the aim of making it a better place than when we started.

We decided to do that through mezcal, combining our passions and experiences whilst maintaining our values of quality, equality and sustainability. The model is straightforward.
