La Joya de Tierra Caliente

“We are dedicated to preserving and promoting ancestral production techniques and enhancing the name of our region.”

Background

The brand “La Joya de Tierra Caliente” has its roots in the Tierra Caliente region, in the state of Guerrero, Mexico. From here it derives its name ‘The Jewel of Tierra Caliente’.

While only founded by the Santana Vazquez family in 2020, they have built upon strong foundations, working with experienced maestros mezcaleros. This proved a recipe for success, as they won the prestigious Grand Gold from the Spirits Selection by Concours Mondial de Bruxelles shortly afterwards.

With a deep respect for the land and traditions, La Joya de Tierra Caliente is committed to using only carefully selected and sustainably harvested agaves.

Tasting notes

The mezcal is bright and water-clear.

Nose: The mezcal is characterized by a fruity style with notes of baked tropical fruits and smoked pineapple grilled on the barbecue. It also exhibits smoky and earthy flavors. The nose is expressive, balanced, and complex without being extravagant.

Palate: The mezcal presents campfire and dark chocolate layers that complement the fruit on the palate, with additional notes of yogurt-coated almonds. However, it also leans heavily on the smoky and earthy side. This mezcal may appeal more to those who appreciate bolder flavors, as it is described as a spirit for mature palates. The aromatic bouquet are typical of mezcal, with the fruity agave notes blending well with the characteristic smokiness. The texture is good, providing a gourmand and persistent finish with substantial length. It retains a typical character with a long finish and a smooth texture until the end.
