Social Enterprise

Época Mezcal was set up with the purpose of pursuing positive social and environmental change. Find out how.

Where your money goes

Fair price paid to producers

We work with small, independent, producers from the collective Mujeres del Mezcal (Women of Mezcal). We agree a fair price with them which supports their growth and arrange all the logistics to export the product to the UK.

We choose to work with producers from areas of Mexico where we can have the most impact.

Profit: used for good

We have committed to use a minimum of 51% of profits for social and environmental causes.

Overarching Goals

A beautiful drink doing beautiful things.

Why not grab a bottle?

Our offer is pretty simple. Buy high quality mezcal, at a reasonable price, safe in the knowledge that your money is going to do some good.

Bristol Venue

One of the foundational aims of Época Mezcal is to establish a venue in Bristol. This will be a cantina-style venue where we will sell our mezcal along with food and other wonders from Mexico.

Here we will provide employment opportunities for those traditionally underserved, who often face barriers into employment.

Why?

We want to make a difference in the place we call home. Despite areas of prosperity, Bristol has its fair share of social inequality and companies with the power to do more are often doing less. We want to be different.

There are groups and communities who routinely face barriers into the workplace. Whether due to their ethnicity, a criminal record, a disability, or growing up in an area of deprivation, people are overlooked when seeking employment. By offering pathways to meaningful employment we may only make a very limited impact to overall structural issues, but we could make a massive change to the lives of some people.

To understand more about our rationale, see the latest needs identified by Bristol One City.

How are we going to get there?

This is where we need your support. We need to generate revenue to invest in establishing the venue.

As a social enterprise, we have committed to use a minimum of 51% of our profits for social and environmental causes. While some will be invested in improving sustainability in mezcal production in Mexico, the rest will be set aside to realise our ambition to open the venue.

Due to the size of the project, we may need to seek additional sources of financing to achieve our goals.

Who we will support and how

We are in discussions with national and local employment charities to better understand what is needed. Following their advice, we will look to establish employment pathways prioritising suitability and impact.

We will seek to create skills pathways and mentoring opportunities to create meaningful employment for our staff. This will give them strong foundations to move forward in their desired career pathways.
